Rear Hatch Wind Noise

Have worked out most of the niggles for the 944, one remaining issue is wind noise from rear hatch. Changed the seal, new hatch pins and adjusted everything. Wind noise starts about 75 mph. Suggestions?

Check if your glass is coming apart from the hatch frame, or if you're getting a good seal between the body and hatch near the top/back. If that all checks out good, time to check your threshold seals, window seals, and if you've got any kind of open holes in the trunk area.

I remember in my 924 the drain holes hat rusted out to about the size of quarters in the back and you could get everything from exhaust gas to wind noise. blegh.

I'd guess that you aren't getting a good seal at the top of the hatch - either the glass has popped or the hatch is not aligned at the rear.

I'll look at it on the 5th.

Early 944's have a lot of noise that comes off of the windshield frame. Still a loose hatch is a PITA.

Went out this afternoon and looked at the Hatch Glass. On the left side there was a gap between the glass and the, for lack of a better word, trim piece. Taped around the underside, "Squished" some black weatherstrip adhesive into it and put a strip of black tape across the top to cover the uneven weatherstriping.. Just came back from a short drive... very little wind noise. Maybe there's a more permanent fix for the problem. But at least now I can hear my wife screaming at me when I hit 110.

Is there a better way to service this issue? AFJ used the term "popped out" when referring to the hatch glass. Is there a way to snap it back in?...

It is a known problem with the rear hatch. The hatch struts put lateral stress on the frame, allowing the glass to pop at the top.

There are a couple of fixes that involve removeing the hatch and bending the frame back into position. Unfortunately, as long as you leave the hatch struts attached, it will be a continuing problem.

(the hatch weighs about 85 pounds and is a PITA to life without the hatch struts, so it is a damned if yuo do, damned if you don't scenario)
