Matt - I installed the new shifter and ball coupler this afternoon. Took only about 15 minutes - a snap. The shaft WAS worn, but not as bad as some I've seen posted. But the plastic ball coupler was broken in two when I removed it! That HAD to be the problem.
I am starting a Part III thread as this one is getting long and I have pictures of the exterior of the car as well as a bunch of electrical and vac line problems I need help with.
