I made ramp extensions out of stacked 2x8s to get the clearance on the front valance. The jacks stands I put just in front of the front doors

Uhmmmmm buy a new jack
![]() IN a rush... - I stick a piece of wood on the jack slide it right in the middle of the crossmember.........raise it up and place both jacks on the rails under the car....... they are spaced out approximately 16 inches from either side. Don't place jacks on the donut holes of the car. The floor will break.

If you're going to use a piece of wood, put the wood on the jack, never under it.
I cut some very small, maybe 2"x4"x1" pieces of wood that fit into the side jack points under the doors. A proper jack pad would work better, but I didn't want to put the metal directly against my jack and I just wanted to get it in the air. When you get it up on stands, I read a suggestion not-too-long-ago on this board where the guy puts the wheels under the car also, just in case something lets go.

how about jacking the car up onto the ramps?
that's what i did for the last job.... safer than stands..

***how about jacking the car up onto the ramps?

how tall are the ramps?
now extend the jack as far as it will go.... does it lift it high enough? if not, borrow a jack.... or do what was suggested and build pre-ramps with pieces of wood...

2x8's are enough to get me onto ramps, and there is no reason you can't do wastegate and exhaust work with the car on ramps.
I also have to drive onto 2x8's in order to get my jack under the car enough to put it on stands. -Ian

Sears runs a sale from time to time on a floor jack and 2 jack stands (less than $30 I think). The jack will fit under my 944 with a piece of 2x4 for a jack pad, and you really should have a jack you can use conveniently and 4 jack stands if you're going to do much work on your 944.

I know this isn't the way your supposed to do it but I jack up one side at a time. Use the jack point on the side of the car, put a stand behind the control arm on the cross member, let it down. Then as fast as i can, get to the other side and get it up and on a stand. Then put the jack in the middle, since the stands aren't usually on all fours, and position every thing just how I want it. It would be a lot easier if the floor jack could fit under the front of the car.

I jack up one side at a time, but I usually use four stands and have the entire car off the ground.
Four stands using four donuts. Is that bad? |

There is next to NO supporting metal behind the two in the front.. I had to weld the one side. Previous owner had collapsed one on the TUrbo. The NA had the drivers side that was ready to tear as well. THey hold but for how long is the question....
