If I may quote what Tifo has stated in the past -

Here are the steps to upgrade a 944 n/a to a 951:

1. Open hood of your 944 n/a.
2. Locate the coolant overflow tank. It's that yellowish plastic tank just behind the driver's side headlamp unit.
3. Carefully remove the overflow tank cap. Note: do not do this while the engine is still hot. Wait for the motor to cool down.
4. Take overflow tank cap and find a 951.
5. Place cap on coolant overflow tank of the 951.
6. Drive off in your upgraded car.

Congratulations! You have upgraded your 944 n/a to a 944 turbo!

-Z-man.

Wouldn't work - the n/a reservoir cap is inferior to the turbo one and will never stand up to the extra power.

Not necessarily - if you've got an M030 spec cab from your 944 n/a, is should work just fine on the 951, unless, of course, the 951 has the upgraded 951-M030 spec cap. Then, indeed, you're 944 cap may not be able to withstand the increase in pressure. But a 968 M030 3-way adjustable rear sway bar (set to the middle setting) should be able to compensate for the inferior cap. Unless, of course, you have a limited slip differential.

But I digress...

It does! I saw an early in a junkyard once with one of these right after the 944 badge.

Ya, know.

I won't bet much, maybe a buck or so. . . but I'd be willing to bet, with money not being the object, I could get 200hp out of a NA 2.5L. . . no added turbo, no supercharger.

Let's see:

Up compression, around 10:1 or 10.5:1
More duration and lift
cat test pipe
headers
big bore throttle body
Port/Polish (again, for what polishing worth on an engine that isn't torn down and cleaned every 500 miles)
Delete the balance shafts
Hotter ignition
Custom chip designed for mods
Recalibrated MAF (this can be taken into account in chip programming though)
Better intake (K&N or the like)

But the real question is . . . . .WHY!!!!!!

Hmm.
I took the resevoir cap off my n/a to put on my 951 because the 951 one wasn't holding pressure.
So does that mean my 951 is not longer turbocharged?

I would say that to turbo a 951, you have to add blinker fluid. Its the best and easiest way to turbo your 951

you need ajajajaja fluid to make ANY car even run

you amateurs know nothing!

combine ajajajaja fluid with "NOS" decals and you will be seeing some serious numbers.
