PROJECT UPDATE - Part I

PROJECT UPDATE Part I:

The engine is finally complete. A few parts were on back order (Thanks AFjuvat for sourcing them).......... but I finally managed to get the last few pieces to my project completed.

- The engine itself is a 2.5 L 944 Turbo engine with an IRL racing head flowing over 240 CFM.
- The engine is mated to a KEP pressure plate, CUP disc, Fidanza flywheel.
- The turbo is a Vitesse stage 2 turbo
- Lindsey Intake replaces the stock
- Also added a 36-1 trigger wheel mated to a EDIS sensor. That will feed my megasquirt (FOr those that are wondering what that funny little thing near the crank pulleys are.

I think that butter your bread comment was taking it too far.
I just want to have sex with your wife.

Wait... that came out wrong.

Seriously though, nice engine!!!
It's not often you get to see one that looks that nice. How far have you gotten with your megasquirt?

What other fabrication are you doing in order to transplant the 951 motor?

Price tag... I dont ask silly questions like that. (BUT not as much as you would think).

The transaxle is a turbo LSD that was rebuilt with hardened gears.......so should have no problems.

The wiring harness and everything needed is 99% complete.

I made a plug and play harness that will plug into the engine bay plug and feed the megasquirt. Nothing like a complete standalone for under 1K. The only issue was triggering ignition. THe plug and play with the stock motronic sensors is IMO a year away........but I wanted to run it now. So I created a bracket that would hold the trigger for EDIS.........and as you can see in the one diagram....... it fits nicely.

THe challenge will be the timing maps but I have a number of maps that should do the trick.

If you have an 86 NA and 86 Turbo...........

Just swap the parts over.

The ONLY significant difference. No relay for the turbo timer in the NA.

That is awesome. I just looked again, I see new oil lines, new everything. Except for the water lines on the turbo... tsk tsk tsk.

Have you got the megasquirt powered up and everything? Any base maps for it?
I would be really interested to see a 944 run with it, since you would probably be the first or second person to do it.

hehehe

YOu noticed the water lines..... but in reality the oil lines would of remained as well but the rubber on the one line just disintegrated in my hand. Trust me I didnt want to spend 200 clams on one line.

I should have the car running by the end of the month.

I have base maps.......but from k26/6 and /8 and some link maps from other aftermarket turbos and so forth... I have a general idea of where it should be. First set of maps will be conservative.........

As long as you have a WBO2, and don't go over 8-10psi until you get the tune right, you will have fun.
I eagerly await your next posts. I want to see a 951 run with megasquirt!

Yup wideband.....

Tial wastegate with 0.8 bar spring so that will have to do.

I am excited as well. It will fire up. No question

.......... The real question will be If I am able to squeeze everything out of it.........

- other parts that need to go on.........
- UEGO wideband
- SFR cat back
- fabspeed testpipe
- lindsey fuel rail/AFR
- 55 lb injectors
- AVC-R
- Konis all around

Other things to come:
- larger intercooler (now that I have the right welder)

That should be a beast. How much boost will the turbo you have hold? 18psi?
That would be pretty wild if properly tuned.

In my previous experiments the Stage 2 really starts to come alive at 18 psi......

at 21+ psi it is SCARY........ even with perfect AFRs the EGT's went through the roof in a split second. I really should of been running race gas....... or at least something better than PetroCanadas 91 winter gas.

At 21 psi it had no trouble pulling all the way to redline......that little turbo has more to give.

Haha petrocanada 91 winter gas....
I think you might need something a littler better to make max power.

21psi, that should be attainable with pump gas, but you might need 94 octane, or to keep it on the rich side to keep the temperatures down.

I'm shocked, I didn't think that turbo would hold 21psi to redline.... I want to ride in your car when it's done. Bring it down for secret street one week!!!
