The End of an Era (and one of the hardest things I've ever had to do)

Well, the 944 is gone.

It was much, much harder to do than I thought it would be. I am a sentimental person by nature, but this stupid car has been a major part of my life for over five years. It's easy to say that it's just a car, just a lump of steel and iron and aluminum and rubber, but try telling that to me on those late nights when I spent hours putting two coats of wax on her preparing for the next day's PCA event; tell that to me when I finally finished that long-fought project that SHOULD have taken an hour but actually took six; try telling that to me when I was aggrivated and stressed out and going for a long drive was my only relief.

I should be happy. I have a stack of $100 bills on my table, a 951 getting ready to be driven/shipped to me next week... but seeing someone else get in the car and drive off makes me feel a deep sadness.

I need to let go, but I guess breaking up is just hard to do.

Good bye, old friend. You will be missed.

You're not going to believe this.

I just talked to the buyer. The damn car broke down on him on the way home. After running great all summer, it pulls this now...

I nipped out to have a look at a Lotus Elise yesterday?

I know I'm English, but compared to the Porker it was a Toy!

As soon as I got in it, I knew it wasn't for me, they look a great little car but My 944S2 is streets ahead in all departments, unless you really need a go Kart?

I'm hanging on to the old gal, its made my mind up for now.

I know how it feels, my first car ever going away on a flat bed after being rear ended...

I feel sorry for you dude. Always sad to see something go you really like/love.

But no worries, once you get in that 951, you'll have a blast (maybe put a pic of your old car on the dash)

Try to stay in touch with the owner so you can visit your old friend. What was wrong with the car BTW? What broke?

If you thought a 944 was a love-hate relationship, just wait until you get that 951 home. . .

When you chuck a heavy wrench or other tool at the garage wall and literally jump up and down screaming things that would make a sailor blush and curse that car to the lowest plane of hell and swear you're selling it come daylight. . . then. . . and only then. . . will you be a REAL 951 owner.

Good luck with it.

That's a sad story...I recently went through that myself with a beat up Toyota truck of mine. I put so many miles on that thing, so many surf trips, so many fond memories and when I sold it (yes, i actually sold it with over 250,000 miles) i felt a sense of loss.

That truck took me EVERYWHERE and it whined hardly ever.

I feel for you a tiny bit but not really since you bought another porsche!

Keep it safe on the road!

Mines just about to land some rubber back on the road (soon as that insurance b/s is figured out,) and reading that blurb tugs at my heart strings too lol thinking about the countless hours (and dollars!) I've invested....we've all done the late nights and early mornings on these charasmatic little buggers lol...they really do grow on you

This is just the way your car is telling the new owner who is in charge.

Like breaking up with a girlfriend. It's always sad to see her go, but in two or three weeks you'll realize that the reasons she went won't change. Hurts, though. I actually went as far as to run an ad for my '44 in the Auto Trader. Made me heartsick to see the ad when it came out. It was even worse being in the car when some guy test drove it. So I kept the car.

You'll develop a good relationship with your 951, I'm sure. Good luck!

Yes.

And I'm guilty. And I have the busted window to prove it.
