Power Steering Rack Questions??Help Pls.

Well the car is going away for the winter and I would like to purchase some items before spring so I can repair Power Steering in the spring. I need the hose from the Rack to the Reservoir replaced. Just before I was to put the car away it developed a leak where appears the rack wash rubbing the small hose just before connects to the rack? Do I need to replace the hose right back to the reservoir or is there a spot where it changes from rubber to steel. The parts picture sorta shows that?
Bigger problem is I need to replace the rack as it also has a small leak? There are a pile out there for sale from 240 to 1000. Anyone had any experiences with buying that can help me get the best bang for my buck? Is it better to go with a ZF??? or a aftermarket which is about 50% of the ZF? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Scott

and while we're on the topic of power steering...

how hard is it to change that rubber boot that sits below the oil filter, it covers a steering rod of sorts...

(you guys remember what happend the last time i tried to "just change a boot")

LOL..yeah, I remember, you fixed your car. Good job.

The question is why would you need to change the boot? If it's because fluid is coming out, it's not the boot. If it's just cracked and old but not wet...different story.

ZF's come highly recommended but I rebuilt the one I have. The rebuilt ones are anyones guess...depends on the qa standards of the rebuilder. Have heard both good and bad stories. I am not familiar with any aftermarket ones so I can't say anything about those. Whatever you decide to do, please post it here so we can learn from your experiences.

I rebuilt my rack this past summer because it was leaking through one of the boots. If it's leaking through the boots you can rebuild the kit yourself or have someone else do it, like me. Mine turned out excellent and it hasn't dripped a drop since. If it's leaking from a line it is possible that the crush washers are not there or the banjo bolts have loosened. I learned that these are a PITA to remove because they torque themselves down over time and an allen key just doesn't do a whole lot of good. If you plan to do it yourself I took a few pictures of mine while I was doing it and rennbay and clarks garage were very helpful. I would look into kits on rennbay.com if I were you or email me at TNT25169@aol.com and I can do it for you one weekend for the cost of parts and some extra money.

TNT25169 thanks for the offer to rebuild but due to the fact you are in the US and I'm in Canada the costs would be high for S&H plus a fair value for your service. As a side is there anyone who works on these cars that live within driving distance of Brandon Manitoba Canada?
Again thanks for the offer TNT. It is the hose leaking as the Rack movement wore thru the hose?
