Custom S2 Intake, Check it

See I work at a car dealership, and a Nissan 350Z came in with this cold air intake on it. I got the intake for free, then chopped it with a hacksaw to make about a 45 degree bend for the S2.
-Whatya think?

Finally! The correct way to install an aftermarket cold air intake. Nice job. Now are you going to get the Turbo batwing to go with it?

I saw this once upon a time. It's cool/correct because unlike a cone mounted in the engine its not exposed to the hot underhood air. With a vented header panel you can get the coolest air possible. This is the only kind of cone I would mount.

Way to make use of that empty space where the intercooler would go. Actually, that's probably a pretty effective setup.

with a cone filter like that in the engine bay all its going to do is suck in hot air which will hurt performance. Routed up to the front and with a vented nose panel from a 924turbo the filter will get lots of nice cold air which makes everyone happy

You will have to clean and/or replace the cone filter far more often than a stock setup. Also the cone does not filter out the road dust as good as the stock filter.

The slots by the license plate actually vent up to the filter, at least the top one is a direct flow to the cone.

I heard I could do this--looks like it can breath twice stock. What is the paper (ok-fiber) filter cone--a K&N? I assume that's the borrowed part? And who makes the plumbing--is that the Z part you stole andcut--is it stock S2 diameter? If that goes through from the front plenum to the motor compartment at a different than stock diameter, please show a pic of how/where. Does the cone canister sit free on the end of the pipe, or does it have a support at the far end? What do you think you get for hp increase at higher revs, where breathing is important? I want details so I can do it when I put in a chip.

the pipe is 3" diameter I'm almost positive(the same as original S2), I have no idea who made the Z intake. At autozone/orielly in the ghetto customization isle, they sell like different pipe sections. A small straight section and a 45 degree bend with a silicone hose clamp should get the job done.
-Where chrome piped ends opposite the filter, it goes into a rubber hose clamp, then to the MAF box. It's like a 45 degree silicone/rubber clamp. It's factory, so yours should have it.
-As for filter support, there is a bracket I zip-tied to around the filter. The bracket then goes onto a little like 10mm nut just like the one pictured, except on the other side
