More TDC Questions
Well, Sundays are my day to work on the Porsche... I was planning on AT LEAST getting the belts off, the cam tower off, and MAYBE even the exhast manifolds...
Well, I wanted to MAKE SURE that my engine was at TDC. The camshaft gear notch lined up, and I looked into the flywheel inspection hole and saw what appeared to be the TDC marker (a black line running across). Just to make sure, I cranked the engine another 180 degrees... and saw, in the flywheel inspection port, what looked like a TDC marker on the flywheel. Now, doesn't the camshaft turn twice for every rotation of the flywheel? Shouldn't I be seeing a TDC mark on the flywheel every OTHER time that the camshaft gear notch matches up with the mark? MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER!

The Crank turns twice as fast as the cam, have a look at the pully sizes.

So as long as I can see a mark on the flywheel, and the cam gear is lined up, i'm ok?

Yep, I wouldnt get too hung up about it if your pulling the top end anyway things will be much clearer.
As long as you turn it over by hand with a wrench on the crank nut before trying to start it when its back together you cant do too much harm |

Thanks for the info. Something tells me I'll be obsessively checking the flywheel throughout this entire process...
