How do you undo the hatch struts

I just reattached the hatch frame to the glass for the 3rd & hopefully last time, but i wanted to unhook the struts to release the tension on the frame.
how do they come off, i didn't want to resort to brute force, but i'm almost there.
I would like to undo the end that is attached to the glass, so they won't be in the way when the hatch is open.
I know the rear defroster won't work, but i've only needed to use 2 times since i've had the car anyway.
any help is appreciated, i'm about the get out the sawsall
thanks

Garage
you pry them off. They are held in with spring clips so you need to pull sideways or use something to pry them off. They will pop off and back on again.

Step away from the sawzall....

There is a small metal clip that wraps around the ball. Pry it off with a tiny flathead screwdriver, then the ball will pull off easily.
