Should my shifter be able to pull out of the column with little effort?

Ever since got the car it's done this, never thought much of it but just wondering if other 944 do this?
When i'm shifting i have to be carefull not to pull slightly up or the whole rod will come up and out of the socket lol
As long as i keep at least the wieght of my hand on it it's fine.
Kinda funny when your trying to show off with someone else in the car and it comes out between a shift lol

At the bottom of the plastic shifter nob, there's supposed to be a retaining clip to hold it on to the metal shift lever. Someone must have left that off of yours.

You oughta be able to find one in a junkyard or from someone's parts car.
