N/A Engine Questions
Had a few question about my car?
1. What would cause the intake and J Boot to have oil in it? Everythign is hooked up. 2. Sea Foam, looking to put some in my oil to clean it, how long can I keep it in before needing to change the oil? 3. Got a small Idle flux, Vacc system is good, along with good fuel and ignition system, suggestions.

Let's start with the Sea Foam... I wouldn't run it for longer than 200-300 miles if you are adding it to a 5w or 10w oil. While it is a great detergent to add to your oil, it will lower the overall viscosity.
Your idle issue and oil in the j-boot may be the same issue. I would look into the seals in the oil-air separator. when these go out, you will start to see oil deposits in the j-boot as you have mentioned, which could also be causing a slight "hunt" to your idle. Hope it helps! -Nick

Yes. It does slowly migrate to the filter box (its all donwhill). Its an easy fix and most parts places have the o-rings you need (I cant remember the dem. off the top my head).

It depends upon 'how much oil'. More than likely the AOS has failed and needs to be replace. I've just done this myself as I had the same problem. Like me you'll probably find oil dripping from every vacuum hose and burnt oil caked inside your inlet manifold (have fun cleaning that). The oil makes the hoses go hard and brittle. If they are, you'll need to replace these also. if you go genuine with all the parts (if you can find non genuine formed hoses...let everyone know), it'll cost about $500 (the new AOS is around $200). It's not a difficult job to do.
Cheers, Jeff

What would cause oil in the intake/airbox if the AOS seals were just replaced?

It's an oil/water mixture, the water probably coming from successive small trips in the car. This is a pretty good amount of oil in the J-boot, and some misty oil in the AFM. How does filling the oil too quickly lead to oil in the airbox?

And if it's not clean oil, your AOS is stuffed.

a worn engine or "blowby" can cause this also, do a compression check

compression test shows "green" or what was considered minimal blowby, the rings still good. Any other thoughts that would put oil in the intake?

Wanted to leave an update. Well ended up changing out the intake to my old intake. and the problem went away. Been several months and have had no issues with oil in the system. Not sure if something was wrong with the intake, or if I crossed something hooking it back up. Now if I can jsut get the electical problems fixed!
