top end noise
At low rpm's my engine is making a disturbing noise. I have good oil pressure, and the noise does not sound like a problem with the bottom end (but I'm not very good at diagnosing noises). It isn't a loud sharp noise like a lifter. Just a very obvious noise from what sounds like the front top of engine. The noise goes away when I rev the engine a little. The engine also seems to want to stall (and does occasionally) it isn't really running rough, just it doesn't seem to want to stay at idle. Is it likely that this is a cam bearing? If so, what is the recommended diy repair?

The noise could be from the WP or belt rollers. You could test WP with a mechanic stethoscope if you are careful since the WP "nose" sticks out.
The better test is to remove the belt covers, loosten belt tension and grab the WP pully. UP & DOWN--SPIN . Read paragraph 2 from: http://www.arnnworx.com/h2o-pump.htm GL John_AZ 1988 924S + 1987 924S |
