Security system

When I bought my 1986 944 the seller told me that the car had central locking and an alarm.

However, he told me that he had lost the button for the central locking and all he gave me for the alarm was a small key.

Can anyone tell me how the alarm system works, what the little key does, how do I set the alarm (I have never had it go off although I believe the seller said he had switched it off at the time) - also I am sure the car has central locking as I have had the doors panels off and seen it, is there a way to make it work? Will the car be drivable if someone breaks into it? How does it work?

Or, am I better off having a whole new system put in by a car security shop?

Or maybe there is already a thread for this - I coudln't find one though.

Thank you for any help.

Central locking only has a single button on the center console above the shifter. It has a key symbol on it and a red light that lights up when the doors are locked. There is no remote for it or the alarm.

The alarm consists of the key slot located in the driver's side rear quarter panel. Try that other key in that slot and see if it works. If it doesn't, I made a write up on how to rekey it to work with your ignition key.
