Garage
My 84 NA ran a bit hot (I'm in Florida) - replaced radiator...installed low temp sensor and thermostat plus ALL fan related & A/C relays...recharged & bled... NOW it doesn't get to the first bar on the temp gauge.

Red face Oil and coolant leaks

The giveaway to the coolant loss is the brief white smoke when starting the engine. You obviously have coolant leaking into a cylinder which is escaping with the exhaust. I have seen this and it was fixed with a new head gasket. If you are losing that much coolant you are also getting air in the systemcausing overheating.
I just live with the mess caused by the minor oil leaks.
