I have a 1985.5 Porsche 944 and I am have A LOT of trouble with the power steering if the front lower bolt isnt breaking then the belt is falling off, I bought a new belt and had it put on yesterday and it fell off AGAIN this morning, this is about the 4th or 5th time it has happened and it drives me CRAZY!!!! Any suggestions as to how to fix this extremely annoying occurence?
P.S. I put on another power steering pump since the old one vibrated like crazy while driving |

My power steering pulley (on the main crankshaft) was worn and no longer spinning on center (see pic). The hole was worn to one side causing the belt to go between taught and loose on every revolution.

A couple of good suggestions from EW. Here's one more, but perhaps is a longshot.
When (If) you remove your pulley to check for an out-of-round center hole, take a look for a part number on it. Looking at the PET catalog here on Pelican, it shows two different part numbers for pulleys. For the early cars, the part number is 944-102-214-02. For the later cars, 85.5 and up, the part number for that pully is 944-102-214-03. I have no idea what the difference is between these two parts, but there apparently is one. Randy

Do you have the correct spacers in the mounting holes for the pump?
