Tach wire / hooking up a shift light question

I am hooking up an independent shift light for my track 944.

The question is, where do I tie that in at. I thought it would be one of the wires coming from the ecu at the red connector, but neither wire seems to give the correct signal (or there is something wrong with the shift light)

Thanks

Ed

Can't you just tie into the tach and set the desired rpm on the shift light? Or doesn't the light have a selection of rpm plugs?

For fear of being in error but I would imagine the input lead to the tach but having said that, what make is the shift light? I recall a diagram on installation but uncertain of where and what make(seen several). But I will figure it out once my memory is jogged.

Try green wire to negative coil post, white to ECU output and black to ground and red to switched 12v power. Make any sense?

I got one for Christmas and need to install it too. The instructions say:

red to 12v ignition switch
black to "good engine ground"
green to coil negative with standard ignition, green to ecu tach terminal with electronic ignition

Then it has these loops of brown and orange that it says to clip depending on how many cylinders the engine has.

Tie Solid Green wire going to Tach meter or Neg Coil.
A big Brown for Ground under dash. Look for several tied together. Does not matter which.
I like the Red with Black Strip for Switch 12V. Can be found comming of igntion 6 wire cluster or such... Check once whith power off, then verify with Ignition in position 2.
You should test all with multimeter ahead of time but that's what works for me.

I just got an MSD (6700rpm pill) for my 951S and I know red goes to ignition power, black goes to ground, and green goes to coil negative. But I don't want to have to run a wire all of the way out to the coil. I would much rather keep it short and run it to the wire coming out of the DME (I mean the KLR) that goes to the coil. Does anyone know what the pin# and/or wire color is for this wire?

F.Y.I. - 2 of the 3 loops on the back of the unit need to be cut for a 4 cylinder engine.
