**FS: 1989 944S2 based 968 Conversion / RS3**
Greetings...
I have decided to officially put the RS3 up for sale. My reason for the sale - my family priorities are changing as my wife is one month away from delivery our 2nd child. My family is everything to me and while I do love this car, it is time to take a break for a while until my boy and I can build another together. The Story: This car was built with the full intention of preparing the perfect 944 track monster. The base car was a 147K mile 1989 944 S2 that was in great condition and was well maintained. I have a 3" binder full of notes, documents and receipts from the previous owners. Overall condition for the car before the build was an 7.5/ 8 out of 10. The Build: I wanted a reliable, lightweight and fast track car. The choice was a 944 S2. One of the lightest coupes, the car weighed in a 2990# at the start. The engine was from a 1995 968 coupe with approx 60K miles on it. At the time of install, we went through every aspect of the motor and replaced any and all wearable items on it. We also replaced the entire drivetrain with the exception of the transaxle as the previous owner had it serviced and replaced a couple synchros as well as replacing the seals. It shifts VERY smoothly. All engine work and installation was performed at J3 Motorsport in Buford, Georgia by Mr. Todd Ketchum. If you have any questions on this car, Todd knows it inside and out. The interior was completely stripped of all flammable elements and was stripped clean to the sheet metal in most areas. It was then primed and painted and then clear coated to help protect it from the elements. The Result: The car presently weighs in at approximately 2600# and has a tuned 968 motor with approximately 250 hp. The engine runs strong and has passed GA emissions to be road legal. Nit picks: This is a track car. A streetable track car, but still a track car. She looks great from a distance, but there are some spots that show her age. She has a little bit of road rash as well as some cracks on the nose (looks like the PO tapped someone - though, very lightly)... The worse spot...but is also unnoticeable to most, there is a very slight dent just ahead of the passenger mirror. I believe this can be fixed with ease from any body shop - I just have not had the time to get it done. Otherwise - the car gets a ton of compliments and always turns heads. Here is the best list I can come up with for a build sheet (I am sure I am missing something): Specs: Base car: 1989 944 S2 Mileage on unibody chassis: 147k Engine placed: 1995 968 3.0L Mileage on engine: 60K 1500 miles since install BUILD SHEET: Engine & exhaust work: --Engine: Rod bearings replaced Belts and rollers replaced Paragon Products crank scraper Custom oil pan baffling Oil pickup reinforced New Waterpump All seals checked and replaced (if needed) Custom intake New spark plugs New plug wires New cap & rotor S2 flywheel S2 front crank pulley/damper 27" x 4" x 3" custom oil cooler Installed OE AC delete / alternator relocation (new belt) 968 DME software - RS Barn Stage II (adjustable fuel pressure regulator) New oil pan seals, valve cover seals, etc --Exhaust work: Racer's edge custom headers Full custom stainless exhaust with high-flow Magna-Flow Cat (passed GA emissions with flying colors) Muffler - Hooker Hi-flow 3" 2.5" to cat and slightly after goes to 3" to out. Side note - What is Required to make this a NASA GT race car?
- Complete the forward portion of the cage to proper spec. (Rear half is done and ready to go.) - Pull the passenger seat and add a net - Lighten remaining parts (rear bumper, nose, diffuser, hatch, etc) - Add numbers And you are rolling. C. |
