Learn from my mistake

BB. replaced all front stuff in feb,2004. car sat often since then, drove maybe 20-25k miles. This morning, cruising around town, 45 mph. Threw balance belt off (it broke clean across one link) and started vibration. I had to look at pavement to be sure i was not on the rain cuts, or the ones that warn that you are going off the road. That is exactly the sound it made, and it felt like maybe a left front tire too. Anyway, I was lucky!! no interference with other belts! The break was clean across one tooth. Will post pix in the coming days. Plan is to limp around today, and weather shoulbe nice sunday for close inspection of all belts, especially YOU KNOW WHICH ONE!

Wow man that sucks! Seems like a long time though for those belts. At least it was the balance shaft belt and not the timing belt, then you'd really have an issue.

Out of curiosity can you share your tensioning method and procedure? (twist, kriket, P9201, Arnnworks kit)

Did you retension at 1500 miles?

Hopefully the repair goes well.

hand method, retensioned. it whined up until about 3 months ago, then definitely quieted down to a normal level, as compared to my bros car. I did check it just about the time it quieted down and by the hand method, it did feel loose. I was planning on doing the belts soon, just because it had had some periods of up to 4 months sitting, when I was fighting the dreaded sensors..

You might want to do both belts if you are in there. Just a thought. Glad it was the BB, that makes things a lot easier to deal with. Was the idler spacing set on the second adjuster?
