late tank in early car questions
I am putting a late style plastic tank in my early car. I saw a post some time ago where another guy was doing the same thing and I have searched and searched and cannot find it. Does anyone know where to find the post. I am curious how he attached the newer style transmission mount bar to the frame rails. I am not sure how to get a nut on the inside of the rail and I dont want to cut an even bigger hole in the top side to get a nut in. Can anyone help me find the thread? Or give me suggestions on how to do it?
thanks |

Hi, not 100% positive but I think I remember reading that you can't put a late tank in an early car.

Not to push any buttons here but I am pretty sure you can do anything you want to do with enough effort. Someone may have said it is not a direct swap. It will not fit in over the original transmission crosmember but if you cut out the one that is in there and use the late style transmission mount it will work. Even the vent lines line up perfect. There are also some mount points that need to be added to the bottom of the floor and the strap points need to be changed.
Some people might say you can't put a v8 in a 944 also but that didn't stop me. Anyway, it can be done and there is a thread about it somewhere that I can't seem to find. Can anyone help me? |

I remember the thread but can't remember who it was. He did make it work, as I recall...

I know of two guys who have done this: mvallee on his work-in-progress CGT (at least, I think that's the car he did it on), and Rasta Monsta, who posted a nice write up over on 924board.org:

Thanks for the link. I think because he has a later car his frame rails already had the holes according to his thread. I still think there is another thread out the about this.
Are the plastic tanks really 20 gallons? That is pretty good. |
