Does my 944s need an o2 sensor?

It wont start below 40f and doesn't start well until it's above 50f.it doesn't seem to lean out as much as it should when warmed up and it doesn't get very good mpg. I've heard these should get about 30mpg if you can be a little bit light on the gas, that's a bit of problem but even when i really try i only get a little better than 20mpg.any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks walt

Hi walter...

I see the turbo forum gave you an answer to the O2 sensor question.
Does my 944s need a o2 sensor

Now about a 944S getting and average of 30mpg--------maybe on a trip with your cruise control set at 55mph .

Really now, I bet you step on the gas at a light and try to make every yellow and have to step on the brake when it turns red. You enter a freeway onramp as if it were T4 (turn 4) at Phoenix International Raceway.

Check your tire pressure to manual spec.

Be happy with a city range of 22-25 mpg and a highway range of 25-28mpg.

Starting issue.

Basic maintenance.
Clean grounds, clean all harness connections, check for vacuum leaks on all hoses.
Change all hose pinch clamps to non perforated screw type or fuel injection hose clamps.
Check the electrical system, alternator, battery, starter.

REGAP the reference sensors. Take out and clean first.
New plugs, distributer cap & rotor

Check your fuel system. Clean the fuel pump check valve. Check the fuel rail pressure regulator. Check the fuel damper. Check fuel pump pressure, change the fuel filter, Clean the TB-throttle body with a Gumout Fuel Injection spray cleaner. Do not use a can of Carburator cleaner on a fuel injected car. Rebuild the TB-throttle body with a $20 kit from Arnnworx Home Page

Clean the ICV-idle control valve.

These are good places to start and maybe get better mileage.

Walt,
The sensors are the reference sensors on top of the bell housing back of the engine.
B4 you start to work on them, put a piece of tape over the TDC bell housing hole. You do not want to have a bolt fall in the clutch.

If the reference sensors do not come out easy, stop. Do not force or pull with a pliers. Wiggle R&L and see if they move (after you take out the 10mm bolt on top). If you are very lucky, they will slide up. There is an "O" ring seal that may be hardened.

If you cannot wiggle either, stop.

If everything goes right and the sensors come out, regap per Clarks with the "washer" as a quide.

Clean the connection at the ends of the sensors with electronic cleaner or similiar. Make sure you match the wires correctly when you put it back together.
