Another no start.... Not the DME relay

So... My baby stranded me today... Cruising down the road and flat line.... Swapped the DME with one out of my silver car that should be good... Still nothing... What should I check next? I've got a spare fuel pump too....

pull a spark plug and check for spark. Take off the end cap to fuel rail, put a hose in it and run hose to a bucket and crank the car over and see if you have a good amount of fuel flowing out. Clarks garage can give you specifics. If no spark could be a refernce sensor. My 83 na stoped running at a traffic light out of the blue and it turned out to be a refernce sensor. You can also unplug your sensor connectors and clean the ends and put back together and see if that makes a difference.

+1^^^

Wiggle the reference sensor connection on top of the rear engine. Clean it. Check for tach bounce when you grind the starter.

Fuel filter clogged.

Rotor loose

Battery cable ends falling apart.

Neg ground on bell housing.

Out of gas

Rodent chewed wires.

A few days ago a member posted he had drivetrain vibration-----after many members suggestions-----he posted back to say it was fingertight spark plugs and after he tightened them down the car ran perfect. Sorry, just a rant....still pounding my head on the pavement. SO=check the easy stuff first.

Fuel filter is less than 10k old and I am very picky about gas... Cap and rotor are new.... Cables are good...

I'm hoping no rodents...

I'll check the sensors and for spark.

Cap and rotor.... Good...
Cables... Good....
Plugs... Good...
DME... Good...
Fuel pump.... Good...
Reference sensors... NEW...
Spark? Yes...
Fuel? I have fuel to the rail... After cranking the plugs are still dry.... Injector issue?

Also.... As soon as I turn on the key my cooling fans come on... Have I got something haywire in my electronics?

Stupid question, but have you checked all your fuses?

I see you checked for fuel. Did you check the actual pressure, it should be ~56psi +/- 2. If it's low, the pressure regulator may be tired.

If the AC is activated the fans would come on. If not, then yes something isn't right...

What thread is the cap on the end of the rail? I do need to check pressures.....

Yes I checked all the fuses.... I checked those before I threw in the towel and called dad to come tow me home... I don't like admitting defeat.

Not sure what the thread is on the 44 - on the 968 it's 12 x 1.5mm. Unfortunately the proper adapters are only available in a master test kit, typically used by dealers. I checked with Porsche & VW and was unable to find the exact individual adapter. I have a 68 and ended up machining an adapter to fit a gauge.
Or you could go to a independent German shop and have them test it for you. Yet another option is to check out Lindsey Racing, they have a bolt on gauge.

Damn.... I was just in OKC today... Doubt they were open though...

We have an extra rail and cap... Considering drilling and tapping the end of it for a gauge...

Checked the Psi... Getting around 36psi while cranking... which is right per clarks garage...

I checked the injectors with a noid light. I am suspecting that they aren't getting a strong enough signal to actually fire though... Anybody got any idea?

Mine was similar on my 944S. the last thing I did was clean the positive cables, including the little ones on the battery. Thye looked good, but did have a small amount of grey powder corrosion that came off.

Check DME yet?

Assuming you do have fuel and spark, time to check compression.

To check the injectors, you can pull the fuel rail off and stick each injector into a water bottle, crank the car and insure the injectors are actually spraying.

I'll try to get ahold of a compression gauge tomorrow.... Would it loose compression so suddenly? No milkshake either place...

The car literally died while I was accelerating... Went just past 4k and was about to shift and realized it flat lined....

If your car has an alarm system, it could be the problem, check clarks for alarm bypassing.
