Replacing Power Steering Hose - From Reservoir
I'm replacing my leaking power steering reservoir - finally.
I was just going to cut the hoses by about an inch so that the hose end that is going to the reservoir is newish. This worked fine for the smaller hose but when I tried to get the larger hose onto the reservoir nipple, the hose seems to be desintegrating. This is not good since the hoses cost a small fortune. Anyway, when I was trying to determine which hose is which (for ordering purposes), I notice that the larger hose is not one of those special hoses but instead has ordinary hose clamps on both ends (the reservoir & the power steering pump). I'm wondering why I can't just go to Pep Boys and get a length of power steering hose - or does this have such a shape that it would kink. Has anybody done this before? And, is there a special hose type that is specifically for power steering? Last edited by Tidybuoy; 06-26-2010 at 12:51 AM.. |

I have replaced it on my 951S, shortly after I got the car, because there was a hole in it. The return line is not under pressure. That's why you can use regular hosing and clamps. But it would probably be advisable to use a higher grade of hose (like fuel or hot oil rated), if long jevity is a concern.
