One step closer to installing a boost control switch.
After coming close to running out of fuel (yea, again - I need to rip into the dash one of these days to fix the gauge problem - it starts sputtering even BEFORE the lite comes on), the only station that was anywhere near, only sells regular grade gasoline. The mid-grade button/display on the pumps is taped off, and the premium button/display says diesel. I only put $10 in it, but as a precaution, I unplugged the cycling valve, until the regular grade fuel is burned up. This really temps me to put a full boost/safe boost switch on the dash. But I may go under, for valet use, or otherwise letting someone else drive the car while I'm not in it (that hasn't happened yet though).

Some have a valet setting, cuts spark and fuell at 3k, leaves the wastegate open.

Very interesting, I was not aware of that. If power to the CV is cut, that will limit the WG to the spring pressure of 4psi, but it will creep up to 7psi at redline. Limiting the revs to 3K would prevent it from creeping up, but do you know how they accomplish that? And do they use a hidden switch, or is it some sort of key switch?

I think it was a thing that one of the DME tuners was doing; external valet switch to be hidden by the installer.

can't you change the FQS on the DME to retard timing, etc... in a scenario like this where you dont the right gas in the tank?

You could, but you can only add 6% fuel, and subtract 2.73 degrees timing - not really enough to compensate for bad gas. But I suppose it would depend on how bad the gas actually is.
