Crazy day. The Control Arm Mount Bushing (#4) bent when a bolt (#10)stripped out. I made it to Istooks shop and got my replacement bushing and bolts.

Now my frustration. I cant get the nut (#8) off ,to put on the new bushing mount. And on top of it all, the hole for the bolt is stripped.

How do I get that damn nut (#8) off?
How do I rethread the hole? Is there a large bolt I can use?

Hey Kev, maybe if you stayed away from adult beverages until you finished the work, I could understand what happened. Example "I made it do Istooks"? and "I cant the nut (#8) of to put on the new bushing mount...." Good luck with that.. lol

To be really honest, if this were my car, I would grind off nut #8, replace it and replace bolt #3. I don't like to play around with the suspension because too many things can go wrong. I am sure that you could soak it in WD40 overnight and maybe get it off but....

Have you tried "waking" the bolts/nuts up? I've been doing this ever since I read about it on Clarks Garage and I have not had a stripped nut/bolt since. Although Clark's specifically talks about allen bolts, it works for all types.

Introduction

Allen head and Cheesehead bolts can be extremely difficult to remove, particularly on 944 engines. Since most of the 944 engine is aluminum the steel bolt thread tend to bond to the aluminum. Because of this, almost everyone who has ever worked on a 944 engine has stripped an Allen head or cheesehead bolt at some time. To help prevent this, I'll share this tip I learned from a mechanic friend of mine.

"Waking Up" the Bolts

Using a punch or socket extension and a hammer, tap around the outside head of the bolt.
For Allen head bolts, tapping on the inside of the Allen head opening with a punch and hammer is effective as well.
While attempting to remove the bolt, ensure that the Allen head tool or cheesehead socket remains inserted straight into the head of the bolt. This requires using two hands, one to hold the tool straight into the head and the other to turn the tool.
If the bolt does not break free easily, tap the head again.

I did get the nut off and bushing on. I did use a different bolt . It's holding however, is there a way to rethread the hole back to the original bolt?

Get a helicoil kit for that sized bolt. Follow the directions and it will be stronger than the original threaded hole. You should go ahead and do both. I had to helicoil several of the 6mm threaded holes on the crossmember.

There are other methods and systems beyond helicoil and I'm sure there are plenty of people to speak up to that, but helicoils are fairly common in parts stores.
