Question Hood insulation pad

Mine is missing the left and right hood insulation pads. Is all that is needed to install a new one simply applying adhesive and sticking it to the underside of the hood? What adhesive would you recommend that won't melt and come away being exposed to the engine heat? Recommend any pad over another? Can you get one with any sort of emblem or stiching in them?

It's best to run without the foam insulation pad.

Makes a great firestarter than anything else.

The pad comes with its own adhesive backing. Just peel and apply. You could also use 3M adhesive to ensure it sticks better. Before applying, ensure that you clean-up all previous applied glue and whats left of the old pad...if it's there.

Hope this helps.

uvachief,

Hi,
So, ya need to replace the flaking hood installation that looks bad all over the engine bay.

Put down a huge old sheet and carefully scrape away.

The best answer?

Let me google that for you

Yes, I am a brilliant -----thanks to others.

There are many previous posts with pictures as to how to remove old pads and put new ones on. Now if you are putting pads on for the first time, the surface must be clean.

I don't know what year hoods came w/o pads but the early cars did have them. Many pros and cons on this board as to their usefulness. I have an 83 and I like the appearance of the pads. I replaced mine as the old ones crumble over time.

Classic 9 Leather Shop: Hood Bonnet Liner Heat Shields

I put these liners on my 931, with cheesey/cool graphics. It looks great.

Somewhere on the website are the instructions for installation. . .the difficult part is locating the specialized adhesive (a 3M spray) that they recommend.

I replaced mine a few months ago with IDEOLA's as mine were making quite the mess on the engine. His are well priced and look good, though the recommendation to clean and use 3M should be taken to heart. I first used ACE brand spray adhesive, then NAPA, and neither lasted. Spend the money on 3M.

Only thing to note with IDEOLA's pad was that for my car, I needed to cut about half an inch off two sides to get it to fit.

This is way down on my list but I will probably get to this item this month. Can anyone post any pictures of their Classic 9 or Ideola's pad?

P.S. The poor fit around the scoop is not the fault of Classic 9. . .my own hack job, I'm afraid!

Thanks for the plug Grandad...and FWIW, last year I commissioned a 931-specific version of the hood liner...to get proper fitment with no gaps, you need just a tad extra material than simply using a cut-out from a modified 924/944 version, so I had Bob make up a template specifically for the 931. Also, my prices are cheaper than what you can buy direct...

There are foil-faced ones that are pretty effective at preventing paint blistering/failure even on very hot-running turbo engines. Try here:

928 Motorsports - Porsche® Performance Parts - Hood Liners For The Porsche®

The stock ones by this point will have crumbled to dust, most likely. Those "bling bling" ones with the graphics? Nah, unless you're into that whole boy-racer/ricer look. To each their own but not my cup of joe...

Bling bling? Really? They come without the graphics...those are add-on if you want 'em.
