Whatis best type of valve spring comressor to use on a 944 head?

I have a lever style one. But I recall seeing some aluminum chips after using it on the 77 924 head when I put new valve seals in it. I'd prefer not to see that on the 951 head.

Also, who carries the brown seals? PP doesn't seem to carry them.

Grind out a deep well socket that will fit on top of the spring so you can get the keepers out & back in. Get a C clamp that will fit around the head.

Seriously?

There is no spring compressor (other than an expensive "special" tool) that will work properly on a 944 head?

What about one of those ones that I've seen (but never used) where you clamp it on, and then wind it down with your fingers?

I have used one of these on mine, but they are a PITA. K-D Tools KD 2078 Universal Overhead Valve Spring Compressor
It will allow you to do the job without removing the head if you have compressed air, though.

A setup like this would be much easier, but the tool that looks like the one in the picture is a bit more expensive, but would work well with the bolt and scrap piece of pipe in the pic. I think the tool was meant to hook onto a rocker shaft in a rocker valve train. The head is a 928 head, but similar enough to ours. This picture makes me very envious after battling with the other one for way too much time. There should be no aluminum chips if you are careful. The c-clamp and socket would be easy enough to rig up, but will only work on a removed head.

The 1 in the link IS the 1 that I was asking about. The 1 in the pic IS the 1 that I have. But when I did the 77 924, I did not use (or know about) the pipe-and-bolt setup. That job just got shifted to the back burner, anyways.
