Help.. OverHeating Problem

87 944s I replaced the water pump and all of the other front stuff while I had it apart. I have BLEED BLEED BLEED it's still overheating. Fans are comming on at 3rd mark but not cooling it down when they come on.At ideal it holds at about 3rd mark , when I drive it, it pegs out with in a block. It goes down to 2nd mark then pegs out with in A block.. Should I take the thermo out, or do I just need to Bleed it more? If I squeeze the bottom hose,(When warm) i get fluid out of the vent hole so no blockage Thermo is open ?? I'm out off ideas what to do next.

Did you replace the thermostat with the same temp previous?

Did you use the "official" thermostat ----Wahler or Behr?

Jack only front of car up a foot or so and then start car and let warm up. Turn heater on and barely crack the bleed valve with expansion tank cap ON! This is the perfect scenario to bleed system, you need to watch bubbles come out for a few minutes then with 12mm boxed en hold it on bleeder screw and rev engine by hand and when more starts coming out torque bolt! If the problem still persist you might try checking your coolant temp sensor in block and wires plugging into. Also engine to wiring harness grounds. Like John said hope you replaced the thermostat when in there!

I checked the thermo brand it is a Wahler but it does'nt say what temp it is, So how can I find out if the thermo-fan switch is a match?

The thermostat has numbers pressed ( 71*C, 80*C, 87*C)in the metal or the box will have a part number.

If you did not change the thermofan switch you will need to pull it because the numbers are pressed in the side and may not be readable. Or you can just assume it is the OEM temp-maybe??? (75*C, 82*C, 92*C)

The reason Wahler is a necessary, is that it has the correct fit in our WPs. Some local parts housed, ie NAPA, AZ, Checker/O'Reilly use aftermarket and the thermostat is shorter.

took off bottom hose tonight and found NO Thermo in it I just paid someone to put all of the parts in. So with no thermostat in it why would it still be overheating

I could foolishly say the "mechanic" you hired sabotaged your car, or purposly did a bad job to get repeat business from an unsuspecting customer.

Was the coolant drained from the rear of the engine and radiator flushed prior to the install of the new WP & parts. The rear of the engine collects coolant garbage between the cylinder wall and the block where the coolant flows.

Start by flushing the radiator and see if any debris comes out.

If you put the thermostat in, (and have all the parts,) the big "C" clip opening is at 12 o'clock. A 90 degree snap ring pilier is needed.
Here is a picture of the parts sequence. The blue item is the shim washer.
