Let the sun warm up the rear spoiler and apply Vaseline (sp.) - rub it in and polish with a clean cloth...works great.

MPG's just comparison

I drive my 1983 944 n/a 70 miles per day 6 days a week and some days more, for the hell of it I checked my mpg's and I am getting 34mpg. Was wondering what every one gets? I drive kinda hard half the time also. Alan

I drive in fairly heavy traffic, and through a several downtown areas in my normal ways of driving.

I get about 22-25MPG out of either of my cars. Trying hard I can get 27-28MPG.

it's his thread, champ.

either way i need to refinish my spoiler, will try those ideas, and on the subject of gas mileage i get POOR gas milage, but the contacts in my distributor cap are all burned and pitted so i chalk it up to that. i just don't have the money to get a cap and rotor right now.

It sounds like being poor is keeping you poor. Get yourself a new cap (or clean the one you have with some fine sandpaper and/or a polishing wheel on a dremel) and save some money on gas!

if you need a spare cap, I've got one I can clean up and send to you just to see if your mileage improves...

I will definitely try that meguiars stuff on my spoiler... it's just plain flat black right now, and I'd like a little bit of gloss.

on a budget? if you have powersteering and as a result a nearly empty (or full) ATF bottle, a little of that works wonders. I understand this works because the fluid is good for seals in an AT... ymmv.

obviously this is for the appearance, not mileage part of this thread.

My spoiler was not bad to start with. I use leather conditioner on it, and it looks like new.

i tried cleaning it as best i could, but the pitting is pretty deep and basically centered in the electrode, leaving a ridge around the edge. not much more i can do with it sadly, but being poor is a *****. there's plenty of IT jobs out there, but a lot more IT people looking for work than not.

pm me about that cap though maybe we can work something out.

Same boat here. Mine even idles low/misfires until I get it warmed up, though that could be for other reasons. I keep meaning to sand mine, but the PO bent the carp out of one of the cap bolts, so it's a SUPER BIG PAIN to take off and put on!

And if your spoiler is pitted, you might as well try what I was thinking of trying (assuming you have a Dremel); try smoothing it out a bit with the brass wire brush bit?? I always like finding new uses for my Dremel bits that the inventors never thought of.

Believe it or not, Smooth peanut butter - the oil will restore plastics. Just rub it on and polish it in. Probably the cheapest of all the products out there.

Cheers,
