FS Manual Steering rack + Intermediate shaft

As title states, I have a manual steering rack in great condition and the matching, special manual-specific intermediate shaft for sale. Also included will be one rubber boot in great shape, one pinchbolt/nut and the tierods that came with the rack. They are different styles which is unusual but are in decent shape. One feels tight and the other feels like it is starting to get a little loose.

I have completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and regreased this rack. The rack and the pinion gear look excellent, they could have come out of the factory yesterday. Rack body is clean and in fine shape but the original paint has mostly come off. Intermediate shaft has no binding, but perhaps could use some paint.

Since these parts are a matched set, and considering the time I have into them, I would like to get $325 shipped for everything. I am open to offers, and might consider delivery if you are in the greater Los Angeles/San Diego area.

The top one was the correct tie rod for a really early 83, but you don't have a matched set of tie rods, you have parts. The tie rod ends need completion.

The inner end socket, on the tie rod, is a big deal.

Being that it is an unmatched set of rods (the rack came to me that way), I would suggest replacing both tie-rods with new ones before installation. The age and wear would support that suggestion. Thanks for the information about the rods!

This is the second thread of mine in 2 weeks this has happened in...oh well.

When I have desirable parts I list them for what the market shows they are worth. I have sold manual racks before for $275 without the intermediate shaft, and many other people have sold their parts for similar price points.

I did say I was open to entertaining offers and that stands. Also, my offer of delivery to SD/LA regions stands also.

it seams that some one wants twice the money for a used part than what the going market is selling the parts for . i had to say some thing ! any one can make a buck but please trying to bend people over is a hole other matter . the simple fact that you can get every part there for about 200 dollers with used rod ends should not piss any one off . it just fact !

Everyone knows this is an affront to etiquette (well, almost everyone). On many forums, it is expressly against the rules and subject to moderation/deletion.

Thanks. I agree its lame. Some people go to the yard and buy cheap. Some people don't have time. Some people know how to dissaemble and refresh (regrease) a rack. Some don't. I imagine this price may appeal to the latter of both.

Sell it brother. We are bumping the scrap out of it. Lol

I sold a rack like that one. New grease, Boots, and one new tie rod end. It also had two types of tie rods. I sold it for $225.

924 2.0 is not the same part. And yes, they are a PITA to come by, especially with the critical intermediate shaft.

As Rasta said, 924 2.0 rack is not the same.

944 manual racks are higher priced because of the rarity of them in the US. Yes they are available in parts yards for less, but you have to be lucky enough to find one when you go. Considering the manual rack was only on US 1983 models, and only 5500 1983 models came to the US (not even all of which with manual steering), it is an unusual thing to come across.

Rarity aside, the driving experience improvement it provides, along with the elimination of a power-dragging, leak-problematic system like power steering, could be used to justify some added expense.

If you don't like my price, again I say I will entertain offers. If the best offer I get is reasonably below the $325 price, it will still take the rack. But if you are just going to criticize the price, please send a private message to me instead.

there are so many of them out there and most bone yards sell them off cheap ! when you check places like on car-parts you will find at least 20 to 30 bone yards that have them . and thats only on car-parts checking other places you will find 1000's of places selling them cheap .because there a vw rack if you know what your looking for you can buy the rack its self new for 135 dollars . as for the intermediate shaft used there 10 to 15 dollars new there 42 dollars i just got a new one and the dealer took 20% off because i'm a repair shop . so there getting rear or hard to find .bone yards remove the parts from the car for you at that price .ship them to you some what clean for 9 dollars .selling your parts should not be done in this category there is a classified category for that ! the simple fact is if you don't know what your selling check what its going for before you list it . if you don't check what there going for you could end up with some one like me telling you your pricing is way off base ! so who is the bigger ass the person that is trying to bend you over or the person thats saying your way off base for the pricing .

I think I already answered that.

As said before, the price was set based on previous experience in selling identical parts. The market value of a manual steering rack and intermediate shaft is around $250-$300. While it certainly is possible to get the parts from a yard, you have to find one at the yard first. If someone wants to go that route they are more than welcome to. It's not like I have a steering rack monopoly, forcing people to "bend over" and only get parts from me.

Wrong again. 924/2.0 rack is a 477 part.
