Ok, I bought a K&N filter for my 1986 944 Turbo. After I installed it the hood would not close. Has this happened to anyone else? It seems the that the K&N filter has a bit more height than a Mahle air filter. Is there any way to fit this sucker in there?

Did you get a cone filter, or is it the filter that goes in the filter box in place of a stock filter?

The one that goes in the box.

measure the two filters. If there's no difference, perhaps you're installing it upside down or it's just a little tight. If it's that, I'd put a little oil on the inside of the air box and see if it'll slide.

I have to fit mine into the top of the air box first, then put those into the car. That way the gasket slips into the airbox properly. If you try to put it in the bottom first it can be difficult to get it to seat properly all of the way around.
I never had a problem with closing my hood because of this, but you never know... Good luck, Keith
