AOS cap o-ring

I'm in the middle of replacing my AOS seals, and I noticed the top cap was loose.
Naturally in 25 years of faithful service, the o-ring has become very hard, and very brittle (like all rubber does).
Does anyone know what partnumber this might be?
I might have to find something that roughly fits, or worst case scenario .......silicone (which i usually frown upon).

It's not listed in the PET, but it seems like such a cash-grab to bu a new one when all you need is a 2 dollar seal.

Enough rambling, if anyone did not know know what was inside... now you do.

that top cap is not supposed to be removeable....it was sonically welded.

if u have a plastic welder, could do that. otherwise, rtv black or rtv grey would probably be the way to go.

check for leaks afterwards. any leaks there will contribute to bad idle and lean condition if it's big enough.

Actually it does come off, That is why they have the tabs around it. Although care should be taken unclipping the tabs. Oh yea this only applies to my 968.

Same tabs on my 86 944 na. I'm quite sure it applies to all.
Definitely not plastic welded on (why put an o-ring there if it's welded?)... Just carefully pry the 6 retaining clips, and it will pop right off.

Yeah, hopefully I don't leave any oil marks on the kitchen table, or the wife will be less than impressed.

Like I said try a local hydraulic hose shop. I picked mine up locally for $6 if i remember and it is metric. I thought it was a little pricey but at least he had the correct size.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

Unfortunately it's hard to gauge the dimension since it's so brittle, and has shrunk, and flattened a great deal.

You don't happen to remember what size it was?

Thank you very much.

I have some spare o-rings at work, from various hydraulic filter bowls maybe the right one is waiting for me in my toolbox.... but that's just wishful thinking.

Just take the AOS with you. I had an o-ring go bad at the small thermost t housing and took it to a local farm tractor place and got 3 for the same price as at one of the suppliers, took about 5 min for the guy to match them up.

Found one that fit. It turns out I had one in my stash after all.
Got some before and after pictures, of the AOS seals replacement.

Nice.

I see you replaced the "rear" hose on the idle stabilizer-after photo.

Did you replace the red $3 (Pelican) "O" ring on the bottom of the oil dip stick to block?

Nice work.

John

Thank you John.
I do have the new dip stick o-ring also. I think I'll give the dip stick a coat of paint before I put it in. The cadmium plating that was once found on most of the steel components has become dull gritty and gray with corrosion. If only I had the time to redo everything. Unfortunately I am eager to start driving, and some things will have to wait their turn.

The brittle orange plastic clips for the wiring harness have now been replaced with Adel clamps, complete with titanium screws. (bottom left image) Just tooting my own horn
