Land Rover would be interested to hear about this as the car has a declared top speed of 113mph. Or were you arrested for driving down the side of a mountain?

well on my 2003 they declared wrong then! it was a 6mile stretch on I65 S @ mile marker 179-173. I wasnt arrested ticketed for wreckless endangerment and improper lane usage.

I actually tried to get out of the ticket by using the declared top speed excuse but the judge said no and I lost my license for 6 months.

In the 944 110 on straight at Summit Point Raceway. I have driven at 185-200 KPH (115-120 MPH) in and out of traffic on the Autobahn and it keeps you on your toes, no wonder they took a while to fit cupholders. Things happen too fast at that speed so you shouldn't be drinking coffee. I couldn't believe how fast those crazy Germans drive in the rain and fog

In the rain they shouldn't be driving more than 81mph in Germany. Dry Autobahn I've held 130mph for at least an hour in my 924S without any feeling of danger because of the lane discipline of German drivers

when i lived in germany in bad weather there are speed limits onr the autobahn . also because of line discipline every one moves over for you . most of the time you don't even have to flash your lights for them to do so . there is also no passing on the right and that is inforced . here in the states every butt munch drives all over the roads then if you flash your lights for them to move right they get mad at you like your the ass . they peg you the finger stab there brakes all kinds of crap like that . it hurts some ones pride if you want them to move right for you to pass . here in the states say there are 3 ,lines the far right lane is the slow lane the center is the driving lane or travel lane and the right is for passing only . it was on your driving test . in gremany there are laws that you can not give some one the finger , call the an ass hole , or any other thing like that . when i lived there part of the autobahn i took to work and home there were no speed limits . it was a every day drive were i would cruise at 155 mph . the roads there are twice as good as ours here in the states . the roads there are built to drive at speeds .

Amen on that. I have always maintained that if our car drivers had to demonstrate their skills to handle a car like pilots have to with airplanes then we would be a hell of a lot safer. At least 50% of the drivers would be off the road and we would have a good public transportation system because all the people who shouldn't be driving would use it. I also ride a motorcycle so I'm damn aware of all the idiots out there.

As a commercial pilot, flight instructor, and fellow rider I totally agree. The licensing system in the US is a complete joke. Anyone with a pulse and marginal vision gets the green light so to speak. I'm never surprised to hear how many accidents there are.

Stay safe out there.

Oh, and to keep this on topic - the fastest I've gone on the track is just over 100 mph at the top of fourth at Roebling Road in Savannah, GA in '03.

Time to get back to the track, I know the 951S will top that...

Is Ederd sure he wasnt clocked at 149kph rather than mph? That would make far more sense than a Freelander doing 37mph more than the manufacturer claims it is capable of.

In my 83 with new tires, front bearings and suspension, on a clear sunny day with miles of visibility, by myself? I backed off at 115 or so mph.

When I was younger I was busted once for going over 200kph in the same car. In court, the arresting officer had to look up the fine 'cause he'd never written one for that speed before. Circs were the same, though. Judge looked at him and quipped, "I guess that Porsche really goes!"

I live in the Central California Coast and we have several areas for misbehaving,

A dozen years ago in my 1988 951S some where between 160mph and 170mph, quick glance down and last year around 175mph in my 996 GT3, again a quick glance.

Doubt I'll go there again on the street, it's too much fun at Buttonwillow and Willow Springs going alot slower than that!

I had a mk1 GTI with a 2.0L 16 valve, the speedo stopped at 160 kmh but around the estimated 190 kmh it felt like it was going to explode.

My 944 is such a difference. I'd do 300 kmh if it had a enough power.

Wonder how much the headlights effect top speeds. Definitely sounds different with the window down and lights up/down.
