Continuing problems-no end in sight

Problem on my 85.5 944na: surge or hesitation during acceleration below 3500 RPM's. So far I have installed new fuel filter, air filter, plugs and wires, distributor cap and rotor, fuel pressure regulator, and O2 sensor. No solution. What's next? I can get new injectors for under $300 or a new air flow meter (more costly!). Am running out of ideas. AFJuvat outlines an injector rebuild procedure on a Pelican CD I received with my last order but if I am yanking fuel rail I would rather just install new ones. Should have known that "cheap" fixes were not going to solve this. Also, I absolutely cannot find any nuts, strange looking or otherwise below and to the left of my throttle cam for idle adjustment. They don't exist on my throttle body.Still suspect yellow plastic disk has some role here. Dammit

Lou,
How many miles on your car? My guess would be airflow meter. I understand your frustration. Best to see if you can get an afm from a friend to see if it resolves the problem. Else, you can find rebuilds for around $125.

I hate posting stuff like this, but...I dumped two containers of Redline injector cleaner in the tank over 4 refills, and ran the crap out of the car and my hesitation problems went away. These cars like to run, and commuting in them isn't the same as running them. The PO did the commute thing for a couple years and apparently was under the impression it was an economy car, and never revved the engine. Redline, and a heavy foot make my engine happy. Sorry for the non-technical answer.

Sometimes the cheap fixes do work, depending on what is wrong. Always start with the cheap/simple first - you will save yourself lots of money that way.

Send me an email with what all of your symptoms are, we can work through it, hopefully without it costing you a bunch.

Question

AFJuvat- Do you wear a red cape and blue tighties when you post responses here?

Heheheh

No, no cape, no tights.

It is just that I have the books, programs, and a bit of experience working on Porsches.

When I was learning how to work on them, I had a really good teacher who walked me through a lot of stuff - was always there to answer questions, hints, etc. One of his biggest lessons was "always try the simple things first", and secondly, "it isn't worth skimping on replacing a $50 part on a big job if it is going to cost $1000 to tear it all apart if it fails 3 months later.. (Flywheel/rear main seal during a clutch job immediately comes to mind)

I guess I just like helping people out - these cars can be pretty damn expensive to work on, plus German engines can be a little "odd" until you get to know them. I've seen a few people spend hundreds to fix a problem that should have cost under $100. If I can help someone do it right without taking a big hit, it is a good thing, that is what this board was made for.

Conversely, I have seen people cause thousands of dollars in additional/repeated repairs trying to fix a problem cheaply (stop leak in the radiator, etc..).
