just replace clutch, engine no start, no tach bounce
I just got done with the clutch but the transmission still needs to be installed. I wanted to attempt to start the car before I went any further as the car has not ran in 6 months due to the clutch replacement.
When I go to start the car the starter cranks the engine but it does not fire up. The tach is not bouncing either during cranking. I am thinking it may be the speed and/or reference sensor or potentially the DME. Where do I start troubleshooting? This is my 3rd or 4th time having the clutch apart on the car so the overall process is not new to me and the car has always started with 0 problems each and every time. What say you? Speedy ![]()

Re-check the Speed/Reference Sensors gap. You could have knocked it out of proper spacing, also check the connection plugs.
Cheers, Larry

Assuming you gapped the sensors correctly start with the easy thing and swap the connectors, you may have reversed them.

I double checked the 944 manual and the BG sensor is in the hole facing the front of the car and the DG sensor is in the hole facing the rear. The connectors are hooked up correctly, DG to DG and BG to BG.
When I installed the bellhousing I turned the flywheel so the threaded screws were facing downward so I did not damage the screws during the bellhousing installation. I felt the DME relay and I can physically feel it closing when I turn the key to run so I think the DME relay is working properly. I may pull the sensors out again and make sure there are no metallic bits on them although I cleaned them well before I put them in. Speedy ![]()

For the sake of ****s and giggles and just to save yourself possibly some time please just swap the sensors. Its almost always the sensors being hooked up backwards.

You disconnected the battery, did your hook up the 3 smaller wires to the POS post?
Did you connect the bell housing ground? Did you damage the FW sensor pins? Did you disconnect the AFM connection? Wiggle the sensor wires. Are the starter wires tight? GL John

I am going to check the sensor clearance as I had trouble getting the bell housing off initially. I wonder if when I tried to remove the bell housing if it came in contact with the sensor bracket and tweaked it out of spec.

I checked the resistance of the speed and reference sensors and one had infinite resistance which would mean it is defective.
Does anybody near me have and extra I could try and/or purchase? Speedy ![]()

I was able to find 2 extra sensors in my garage from the parts car I bought from Chitown944 years back. I installed the sensor and the car fired right up and settled into a nice idle.
Now to finish installing the exhaust and to take the car out for a ride, the first ti e in 8 months. Thank you everybody for your help. Speedy ![]()
