How to remove ignition lock assembly 87 944s. Please Help

I am trying to remove the ignition lock from my 87 944s due to intermittent issues. I can't find anything on the 87 model. Please Help.

Thank You.

Cool

If the switch is intermittent you must need the electrical part on the back side of the Key part.

Check the price new, $117.00, so I bought a used one AND a spare one for $22.75 S&H.

Late Model 944 Dash Replacement

Use above link to remove the Gage cluster down to #3F.

I did the same job of replacing the ignition switch module. Remove the instrument cluster so you can see what you are doing unless you are into yoga. The switch is held on with two screws. The one next to the steering column is a PITA to get out. I used an inspection mirror to see if the screws were common or X point. I bought a short stubby screwdriver and broke off the handle and a small long nose vise grip pliers. You have to mess around with the screw next to the steering column, but I was able to get it out. The other screw was no problem. Just be happy you don't have to change out the key unit. You have to use a Dremel Cut Off Wheel and cut across the top two bolts in order to remove the broke off torque shear bolts on either side of the steering column. Normal bolts and lock nuts are put in their place. You now have the benefit of days of shear frustration on my part.

Cheers,
Larry

I realize that this is an old post

Can you describe the symptoms of a bad ignition switch?
