Rear spoiler delete??

Ok, so I have been toying with the notion of deleting my spoiler. My question is...Is there a kit for this or how would i fabricate the seal to replace the wing? Also if anyone has pics of a hatch without a wing that will help also.

P.S I don't care if you dont like the look. This is hypothetical

Spoiler delete

It would be easy to do a spoiler delete by finding an early 924 that was delivered from the factory with no spoiler. Remove the hinge bolts , swap hatches and you are done.

I have pictures on my other laptop of my 944 with no spoiler... doesn't look too bad really.... The spoiler isnt the seal so you are fine there.... You'd just want something to cover the bolt holes with is all....

i don't know what the implications would be for removing the spoiler?

maybe less aerodynamic, less economical, maybe a bit light in the rear at speed?

the early 924 didn't have one, it was pretty clean and just a simple wedge. my '78 didn't have one and it felt rock steady at an indicated 200kph (probably 188-190kph actual!) The 944, with a wider body and bigger tyres achieved its low CD with the aid of the rear spoiler.

i know my friend spun his series 2 RX7 (gen 1 for you guys?) taking a corner at the same speed he normally did, except this time he had no rear spoiler... he was doing 150 kph though!

rear spoiler delete

Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1983 944...it's a great looking and running car, but i truly despise the rear spoiler. Is there a way of removing it??? Also, is there something of a kit and or solution to cover up the bolt holes?

Why do you despite it? Porsche specs shows it makes quite the difference in drag, and it helps neutralize rear lift. Aerodynamicly, the basic shape of the car, tries to lift the rear wheels off the ground, this lifting force, takes energy. The spoiler cuts the lifting force, reducing drag. I'm not sure on aero specs of the 944 without a spoiler, but I do on the 924/924 Turbo, the Turbo had a big drop in drag from the rear hatch spoiler.

By far the easiest and cheapest thing is to simply replace your rear hatch with one from a 924.

Sell your 944 hatch, and the swap is free.

Aerodynamics won't matter much if the car never sees the track. For an around-town daily driver, no factor.

Stability may start to suffer above 70-80 mph, and I wouldn't want to take a spoiler-free 944 very far into tripple digit speeds.

I went with the small wing from a early 924, I think it looks cleaner and easier to get into the rear hatch on the 83
