A/C Flow Problem
Can someone give me some ideas as to what is wrong with my AC system? My controls all work fine, the heater works and I am able to get outside air. But as soon as I turn on the AC switch the normal fan stops, the compressor starts up but I get no air out of my vents. From the amount of sound I am assuming that the AC works but just isn't getting through to the vents. I can also hear the AC relay in the passenger foot well working when i first turn the switch. Any ideas? 1984 944 N/A.

I am thinking you need the AC for defrosting?
Check all the relays-fan & AC & ??? to make sure they are connected and not corroded/fouled. Pelican Parts: 944 Early Fuse and Relay Layout Try the common vent parts/heater clips that fail: 14. Porsche 944 Climate Control FAQ I cannot guess if your assumption of "the AC works" is accurate. Have you had the AC checked in a shop or your own HIGH/LOW pressure guages? EDIT: I just found this thread that may help: 1984 fan resistor location GL J_AZ

It's an early car John, so no heater clip problem.

The only reason I would like to have it working is that it gets really hot in the car without tinted windows and sitting in rush hour traffic int he summer and for added resale value.
I have pulled the two relays under the passenger vent out and they look fine (was some glue stuff rattling around inside). I have also replaced the fan relay in the main fuse box recently. I'm thinking it may be some sort of vacuum leak as the main flap to allow air from the AC is operated by a vacuum and it is not working(Part A in picture). Part B makes a sound when you move Part A by hand that sounds like pumping a hand bike pump. Sorry for the lack of proper terminology, I have tried to avoid the HVAC system due to my very limited understanding of its operation. ![]()

You could pull the entire heater and replace the foam and check for operation---a lot of work.
SolReaver did a DIY. The 924S series has the early 944 heater/AC unit. A lot of pictures that may help. 87 924S heater core A lot of work! J_AZ
