That's the timing and/or balance belt whining. They do that.
By the way, do you know when the belts were last changed? You do know you have an interference engine there, right?

Sounds like a 944 to me. When is the last time your fuel hoses were changed and vacuum lines replaced?

Sounds like every 944 series car I've ever owned. Clicking injectors, slight whine from the gilmer belts, everything's normal.
If you have an older (1986 and earlier) car with the manual tensioner, remember that you need to re-tension the timing belt 1,500 miles, and 15,000 miles after changing it. If you haven't kept up with re-tensioning the timing belt that could account for the whine changing a little.

Call a Local Porsche mechanic and ask him about a 83 944 Porsche Rambo Job.
Rambo = Waterpump/Running belts/Timing belts/ All FRONT seals of motor/Tensioners/conversion to new water pump for removal without having to remove the timing belt/pullys/etc. Its a big job. Cost me 3,000.00 |

No your car does not have the auto tensioner. That why AaronM mention that you'll have to re-tension the TB after 1.5K miles or so. ![]()

The Upgrades and modifications done so I can replace the pump later on without having to deal with all the Pulleys and timing belt. Couple Bolts and its removed. As well, I live in California. You call and ask for a price in my town. *Redding CA* Good luck finding someone to do it. I had to haul the car to *Chico* 150 miles? |

First, an interference engine is a more modern design, and more powerful, where the pistons can run right into the valves, if not adjusted correctly. So, if your timing belt snaps, you are in for a pricey and painful top end rebuild. Unless you're one of the 944 super heroes here, then it's probably slightly easy, lol.
Good, double check those hoses and lines. Vacuum leaks kill your power and mileage, and you really don't want your baby burning down. Maybe invest in a fire extinguisher and mount. Tensioning is not hard ![]()

Its the point of having to deal with it. As well, I would just call a local family owned mechanic shop and they should be able to look at it without charge. Check everything for you, at least thats what a guy is doing for me here. He lets me use all his Diagnostic papers/books/etc. I'd buy the books but the price he paid is too much for my wallet ![]() |

I'd stay away from any shops not intimately familiar with 944's, and shops in general. Save money and do it yourself, the right way. You learn that way and it's the fun of owning a Porsche
![]() You're very lucky you have a shop that is willing to do all that for you for no charge, it is not very common here.
