				New Old Idle Problem

			Here we go again...

The engine has been running great for a few weeks but it seems that as we are getting into warmer temps here in New England, she drops about 200-250 rpm when at operating temp. I've tested, replaced, coaxed, pleaded, begged, punched, hammered, and tickled just about every component that is even remotely associated with idle or throttle control. She drives like a dream under any throttle but lags (intermittently) when I release the gas. An interesting point; if I'm rolling at speed and shift into neutral, the idle is ok. Once she comes to a stop, then the idle drops down. There are times, however, when she idles perfectly so I'm very confused with this issue. One thing I plan on trying out tomorrow is; when she's at operating temp, I 'll tap on the DME (used but recently replaced) to see any engine speed variations just in case of a cold solder joint. I will graciously accept spells, potions, or just about anything else that will help. Thanks!!

If I say it's annoying, it would be an understatement. She's just about 100% mechanically and then this _ _it starts up. I haven't had a chance to tap the DME yet (or anything else for that matter). Maybe this coming weekend.

You may be right as I tapped on the AFM, while at idle, and rpms changed a bit. I then drove her a couple of miles and the idle appeared to be ok. I had it open and cleaned up a few months ago so I guess it's time again...

Try running a jumper wire in the diagnostic port to turn off the idle stabilizer and see how it idles... also a good time to check for vacuum leaks

Since I tapped on the AFM, no problems. I think I'll reopen the unit and give a once over, again. Vacuum lines are good.
