Porsche Crest 968 engine swapped into 944s

This is a long term projects for me. Two Years ago I bought a 944s with a junk motor. The car had 50k on the clock and then sat since "94". It's in very good condition. Last week I found a low mileage 968 that was wrecked. Instead of just pulling the motor I pulled the whole suspension cross member rack .. dme and harness et al..

Much easier to pull the engine that way. Hope it goes in that smooth took about an hour & 1/2..

My plan is to bolt the 968 stuff, struts and all in the 944s. One question I have is do I need to change the calipers out? as they came off a ABS car? From what I understand ABS systems have a pump. All the 968 stuff looks very good.

also I will be selling the 944s Suspension etc. once the car is up and running...

I would appreciate any input or suggestions Thanks

addium

After exploring further I found out the 944s has abs and appears that I can just plug the 968 calipers right in!

all the swaps I have read about on the forums seem to be swapping 968 into a 8 valve. I am thinking that I may not have to do any rewiring ? Any body reading this want to coment.

I am going to put 17" twist on the car from a 2000 911. I think the offsets are the same. as 87s. 7.5 front 9 on back.

Cool project! Be sure to post some pics. Are you going to be parting out the rest of the 968?

The calipers aren't part of the ABS system so you should be fine either way.

I am trying to figer out the wiring situation .. from what i understand only a few things have to be done on S car . e.g. green wire on ICM is cut and spliced together as it's not used.
where the confusion lies for me is on the DME ... I am doing a swap putting 968 engine in a 87 944S... one guy says all you do is get pin 7 powered by key on. The connectors are different. How do get the air to work? Any input would be appreciated.. I am also looking for links to wiring diagrams

Search around and and you will find a diagram for the swap. Most changes are in the 14 pin plug by the fuse block and behind DME. Assume you have a late offset car, most likely if you already have ABS.
ABS pump, rack, crossmember etc are the same.
I would go with the later larger radiator so you will need the lower frame piece to do that too.

so far

I got the engine in yesterday. Next thing is going to be finding a set of good wiring diagrams /schematic . for 968 and 944s . Does anyone have these..

My 968 engine is out of an Triptonic but it appears to be same part number as in manuel..anybody got any input on that?

On guy has post info for this where he says on the 944s there are no changes to the fuse box wiring and splice the green wires together to by pass icm.. and to get it to run the only thing is to get key on to pin 7 on the DME so how do i know where pin 7 is?.. Well before I blow up the DME I will take to Rick @ Autobahn here in Daytona . He's been called the "king of 944s" and always had a solution in the past.. factory trained etc.. Yes I did get a turbo radiator. I will post what i found out about wiring .. different colors of wire and different connectors.. under the dash.

You need to get the 968WRKSP.pdf
Section 5 has the electrical diagrams.

There were a couple of bootleg sites that downloads were available for the 968 WSM but now the links do not work or removed (?). Porsche NA prohibits, polices and removes the information with copyright laws.

eBay may help.

JivenJim did a similiar swap and has info too:
I Swapped a 968 into a 924S
