Missing O2 Sensor Wire

Hi All,
I am the new owner of a 1985 early style 944. I am poking around and finding all of the neglected bits from previous owners. So far so good except that I cannot locate the O2 sensor wire. I have searched the forums and looked at the Haynes and workshop manual but all of them assume I have a green coaxial wire which is mounted to a circular connector which is attached to the firewall. I have none of these. Not even the bracket for the circular connector. I have a 3 wire O2 sensor in the exhaust pipe with the leads clipped off at the sensor. I have looked at the wiring harness at the DME but it is nicely jacketed and I am hesitant to cut it open. I have traced the main DME harness from inside the car through the firewall and located it in the engine compartment. All of the shrink wrap is intact and there are no clipped or terminated wires. It seems to me from the diagrams that the O2 sensor wire is supposed to run inside the main DME harness from the DME through the firewall and then break out to the circular connector.

I have attached a pic of the area where I would expect to see the green wire and circular connector.

Is it possible that this car simply does not have a O2 sensor wire? I have never seen someone disconnect a sensor AND remove all traces of it!

Any help is appreciated, love this car!

Thanks,

Nate

Ahhh yes...maybe....when I decoded my vin it said "Rest Of World". It does have different bumpers and the vin doesn't seem to be in the standard insurance database. The previous owner did not mention any of this.

Did "rest of world" models have no O2 sensors?

Thanks!

I think Gaw has hit the nail on the head...European/ROW models (especially early ones) did not need too much in the way of emissions controls, so an O2 sensor is generally not fitted. However, things do change as the years progress and other countries start to change their emissions requirements.
