Speedometer not working
I took the speedometer out of my 1984 944 and opened it up, glued the odometer gear in place, and spun the shaft to verify that it works.
But I put it back together and still no speed or odometer. The cable end isn't stripped, as far as I can tell. I'm assuming it's the cable...is there a weak point to check first? Where is the other end of the cable? Maybe it's not hooked up.

Look for the circlip holding the cable into the drivers front wheel bearing dust cover. That's what hold the cable to the rotating assembly

What Jrboulder said, you don't necessarily need a circlip either, mine has been band aided with a twist tie for years. It is possible that the cable has busted.

It is the cable, I talked to the previous owner and he said it snapped up by the front wheel. Not sure if that means the cable or something else snapped.
