WOW! Does this make me nervous!
I don’t know if this has started doing this recently or what but my manual 5 speed 83' 944 shakes and jitters and jumps when I try backing it up... to the point where I have to back it up ever so slowly. It feels like the rear end is trying to get in the back seat!!! I'm praying this is a throw out bearing in the trans? Can I get a second opinion? Adam |

Your throw out bearing is just behind the engine with the flywheel and clutch assemblies.
The transmission is in the back with the rear wheels. Since you just replaced one side of the parking brake shoes there is a good chance these are hanging up when you back up. See Pelican's parts illustrations for a parts picture of the parking brake assemblies.
