broken 2.7 block: can I use s2 3.0l block
My 2.7 is knocking, so I'm thinking about options. Can I use my good 2.7 head on a S2 3.0l block?
Cheers, Rissole.

The block itself will work but you might have valve clearance issues with the pistons of the S2 engine.
A 3.0 8v would be a nice NA motor. Where are you located? Would you sell the 2.7 motor? |

I don't want to sell the head, I've recently fitted new valve guides and recut the seats.
The block I'm going to pull out next week, to see if I can spot what the problem is. Just trying to figure out what might work. My pistons have smallish cutouts. The 3.0L block has longer stroke, same bore. Are the pistons in a 3.0L relieved..? cheers Rissole

Ahh so. Good point..
![]() At the rate this is going I think I'd better find out what's wrong, and how much to fix before getting into custom pistons, or reworked pistons or w.h.y. though other suggestions welcome of course. cheers Rissole

Knocking could be worn rod-bearings. Much easier to drop the oil-pan and remove the con-rod caps to take look at the bearings, than to remove the head.

I think for the amount of extra work involved, I might as well pull the whole thing out.
Then at least I can give it a good clean.. ![]()
