BBS RS 16 x 8.5 & 9.5 fitment questions
Recently had the opportunity to pick up a staggered set of 16" BBS RS' for a price I couldn't pass up. Specs are as follows:
F: 16 x 8.5, ET 56 R: 16 x 9.5, ET 59 I was thinking about fitting these to a early offset 944. Obviously they would need spacers so I'd love to hear feedback regarding size. Since the difference in offset is 33mm + or - for the front and 36 + or - rear. That being said does anyone have any tire size recommendations with that setup? Thanks in advance ![]()

the bargan price was probably due to the lack of tire selection for 16" in those width.
I have three sets of BBS 16" with my 930 conversion project, 8,9,and 11. still a long way to go finishing that project, no idea if I will be able to find any tires for them at that point. good luck.

I agree, the options for 16" tires seem to be diminishing over time. Since this particular 944 will be getting a slow "outlaw" rebuild I've been considering putting rain tires on (no slicks!) so there may be more options with that in mind.

You don't want to space back to factory offset as there will be rubbing on fender edges. You'll want to increase offset by about 10mm so that most of extra width is on inside edge. So 1" spacers will be fine to give you 31/34mm offsets. I used 16x10" all around with 38mm offset on my '86 951.
For rear 245/45r16 tyre, you're pretty much limited to Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 or Toyo Proxes T1R. |

Danno: Or, alternatively reconfiguring with a 1" deeper lip and a 1" shallower barrel?
Additionally in regard to the rears removing the 21mm factory spacer and reconfiguring with a 2" deeper lip and a 2" shallower barrel?

Sure, if you can find rim-halves in just width you need.
Note that each change in width affects offset by 1/2. So that's correct, changing both inner and outer halves by 1" results in moving offset by 1" as well. Although no need to remove factory 21mm spacer. If you do, you'll need open-ended lug-nuts because studs will stick out 1" beyond lugnut. I'm also not sure if those longer 72mm studs are threaded all way down or not. Last edited by DannoXYZ; 03-10-2020 at 04:09 PM.. |
