Converting 94 GTS to standard

I'm going to help a friend do a standard conversion to his 94 GTS and want to know a few things:
Does the 94 firewall have the cutout and/or indent for the master cylinder?
What should I do with the computer? I know that the automatic computer is not going to like not seeing any of the sensors/actuators plugged in.
Any advice outside of the usual "don't do it" or "buy another car" would be greatly appreciated.

Other information- my friend has the entire swap from an S4 and I told him to get the section of the firewall cutout around the master cylinder.
This conversion is being done on a salvaged car, so we are not ruining anything important.

I think the personality, AT vs Man, is in the brains chip, so a chip swap or maybe a sharktune could deal with any brain related issues.

S4 5 spd is different from the GTS, and all GTS I think used the PSD instead of a LSD. No idea what might effect what, but going to a LSD I think has been done, and if I remember correctly some model year S4 tranny may work better than others.

Flywheel might need to be from a manual GTS, at least from some manual motor.

Take lots of pictures while you do it. Good luck.

I don't ever remember seeing any wires from the auto to the brains, but I might be wrong. The auto trans is vac controlled.

Okay, I'm resisting (it's really tough though...). Would you be willing to PM me the VIN so I can make a note on my website?

The GTS DOES have the opening and support bracket for the clutch.
However why you would ever want to do this is beyond my comprehension - the auto box is far superior to the POS stick shift.

thank you all for you replies,
Rogue, the picture defenatly helps, Im thinking it wont be that bad to drill the firewall spot welds, how much stuff did you have to remove to get that area that bare?
I didnt know that the trans on that car was all mechanical, that would make the project a little easier.
Has anyone in here seen one done on a 928 GTS before? I was hoping that maybe the factory just through the firewall piece in on both autos and standards (ha fat chance).
Well I will start in a few weeks, and am going to try to take pictures.
Thank you guys very much

ROG, does it really?
The owner just wants to toy with it and the car has been wrecked before, so I dont think he cares about keeping it origonal.
thanks for your reply

the earlier cars did not but the GTS does.
It took them a long time to make a uniform bulkhead.

Take no notice of my rants about the POS manual gearbox in the 928.
I now own enough 5 speeds to understand its a macho - I can make this bloody thing work if it kills me and I will not admit defeat ever - type of excuse.

Sounds like a lean manufacturing nightmare, must be part of the reason that so many 996 and 986 parts are interchangeable...

Who knows with Porsche,
These cars are from the days of actual hand labor and some one off parts in certain cars.
Maybe a car in production was switched over before leaving the gates??
I hope I have one of those...

If your GTS in the picture has them why would you be cutting them out?
Since when did they make GTS's in China 8>)

Could be that the last cars have them, not due to uniform bulkhead, but use up all the last parts whatever they are.

In case you don't know, Roger is famous as a remover of 5 spds in favor of automatics.

I find it a bit funny that the GTS may be the only 928 its actually practical to swap the tranny for what you want rather than just buying AT or 5 spd in the first place.

Hi Rogue,
Not trying to steal my good name are you - Rog, Roge, Rogue 8>)
I may be wrong so do not take everything I say as gospel. I will check my GTS to try and confirm the information for you.
Have you stripped back the insulation on your 94 to check? Very hard to see until you do that.
No matter how bad your GTS is it is still one of the best cars on the planet bar non. And if it is the far more superior Auto then why the H**L are you butchering it?
Best,
Roger

You know I seem to remember being wrong once before in my life 8>)
Does it have nothing on the bulkhead at all?
I will bow to your example as I cannot argue with that.
I need to check my information again just in cas I may be right and your wrong 8>)
Are you sure you have a GTS and not some chinese import?

How did your GTS get that bad?

Sounds like a potential Chinese export.

I try not to think about how rough the car is, and focus on whats possible. If there is something in the possible range you like, then what the heck.

I wish I could stick stick a turbo 400 trans with a trans brake in my friend's car and screw the master cylinder...
I think the car will be a little more fun with a manual trans, the engine has got some ba!!s to it.

It should go right in if you have a Victor wrench.
