Glue instead of weld?

Black 85 Euro is on a lift right now, so I spent some quality time looking around with a flash light at the bottom. Driver side rear wheel well rear splash guard has the tab broken off at the top of the body where the screw goes. I'm wondering if its reasonable to glue, epoxy or something a new tab in instead of welding?

Base of the old tab is still there, so I was thinking clean it up with a wire wheel and glue an L bracket to the base.

Do you have Caroll Smith's "Engineer to Win"? If so then you could get that project done in a way that it would not break.

I would pop rivet a plate to the backside of the splash guard. Use rivet washers on the front side to distribute the stress. A little flat black paint and you will have a sturdy and good looking repair.

My splash guard is in good shape, its the tab that should stick down from the top of the wheel well the guard is screwed into that has broken off.

Hopefully I am just senile with bad eyes, picture looks like your tab is bent back, maybe mine is too? I'll take another look with my reading glasses. Presbyopia sucks.

I get it. JB weld would do it. Glue it down and blob over it would be strongest with good prep.

What's on the other side ?

I may work on the rear interior of my 84 Euro parts car and find out soon. Could be the spare tire thing?

Stop by a body shop. There is an adhesive that is used to glue body panels on. Door skins, quarter panels, ect. Have them pre it properly and glue a new 90 deg. bracket on for you. JB weld is good but not near as good as panel adhesive.

My '85 S2 doesn't have this piece on either side. I don't think they are really necessary.
