Will front wheels with a 55mm offset damage my splash guards?

Have any of you have ever had your front fender splash guards damaged after putting on front wheels with a 55mm offset (instead of using wheels with the correct 65mm offset)? Thought I better look into this before installing new splash guards on my 1988 S4, only to have them destroy by putting on front wheels with a 55mm offset.

No problems with a 55. 2 of mine run them.
