Thanks, but it is not a competition, I am just a passionate 928 guy who have been blessed with the means (both monetary and patient wife) to collect these fine beasts and enjoy them...I share them with all who care and are willing to take the time to stop by and enjoy them with me.

J-Rod... The VELVET HAMMER! I LOVE YOUR CAR MAN!!!

Here are more shots of the race car... Enjoy!

This was Mark Anderson's first big time built from the ground up race car. I bought it as a rolling chassis and then put it back on track... As with all race cars it is a work in progress, but I have tracked it quite a few times and have PCA Club Raced it twice!

Here are some more shots of the race car... BTW, I have seen Mark Robinson's race car and it is SWEET!!!! He has done a GREAT job on that car. I look forward to seeing it on track someday! If we can get Jason Hart to finish up his car and then get just a couple more guys out we could have a nice display of 928 racecars! You don't see that very often!

How it looked when purchased

Then blew the timing belt so pulled the motor

Now finally back and running with a few small things to iron out

Now nice and dry and tight with zero leaks

Sold them right after I got the car and put the hollow spoke 993 turbo wheels on. Not a big fan of cast aftermarket wheels on my cars. I prefer to stay OEM with upgrades. Some Kinesis and Fikse are also cool.

Very clean and dry. I also like the hollow spokes as they are very lightweight and look sharp, except you'll pay a pretty penny on those. I wanted them but couldn't afford them, so went with Aftermarkets.

Hey Doug. Could you share what happened when you snapped the belt? Did the valves crash? I'm interested since I've got the same engine Also, what year are your 928? Your dipstick is different from mine, and I've got the sneaky suspicion that someone replaced it on my car and it's not showing correctly (ie. too short).

Thanks, and nice car btw!

The car is a '84 Euro S. I snapped the belt while accelerating hard. Heard a loud "pop" and everything died. Fearing the worst, I pulled the motor. I did a compression and leakdown and everything was good. Turns out some early M28/21 motors will not have contact. I got lucky. Since the motor was out I decided to refresh everything from motor mounts to seals.

If one M28/21 engine doesn't contact, none will contact. Unless yours has had it's internals replaced or altered. Phew, I feel a lot safer now. I sort of got on to the idea that the 84-86 Euros are non-interference when I did my TB/WP change, because I had to turn the crank 180 degrees (Harmonic balancer on wrong way, long story short), and it just spun freely even when the cams moved away from their marks due to spring pressure.

Were the brake ducts and option on these cars?

I don't know for sure. If it came with the front chin spoiler, I believe it had the brake ducts and hoses attached.

Wouldn't guarantee that Riber. Here is a quote from RL after I busted my belt and found out that I had no contact.

Doug - great news! Looks like you have the early lower compression pistons being that you engine number is < 82E00596. I just checked my engine number and it is 82E00304, so it looks like I also have the early lower compression pistons. However, I am still going to treat is as if interferance...

Just curious - did the engines typically go in in order along the lines of the VIN? My VIN is WPOZZZ92ZES840849 - not sure if that is considered an early, mid, or late VIN for an 84 Euro. My engine number certainly indicates it's an early engine.
Code:

MY Model Market Smallest VIN Largest VIN Qty
--------------------------------------------------------
84 928 S/S2 ROW WP0ZZZ92ZES840061 - 842088 2028

There are two engine number limits in PET for piston change, 82E 0596 and 82E 6113. As automatic gerbox engines started from 82E 5001 this means there were 596 + 6113 - 5000 = 1709 engines made with early S pistons. Almost entire '84 MY was done with them and both VIN's in this thread are clearly smaller than what can be expected to be last VIN to use them. Its not going to be 1709 + 60 = 1769 as some engines were reserved to be spares. Cut of point is probably somewhere in region of 1600-1700 but its not single clear VIN rance. There were some overlapping period when either type piston could end up in car.

The USA '82 could be orderd with the Competition Package which gave it the spoilers and brake ducts of the Euro S, but not the engine. It's hard to tell these cars apart from cars that this stuff has been added to. I think this car in question is an original Competition Package car. The 928S was available in Europe with spoilers, and 300HP from 1980. This is going from memory. So don't quote me on it.

The reason I was asking is because my car has the ducts and the spoilers but I'm pretty sure it is not a S model. Maybe it just has the Competition Package?

To find out for sure here is my VIN: WP0JA0928CS820356. If someone could see what it has it would greatly help me out.

After the ducts, does it have the plate that directs the air towards the Brake Calipers too? It's not at all hard to add this stuff on after the fact.
